💳 Q1 '22: Consumers Pulled Out Cards Again

Visa credit cardholders shopped 22% more Y/Y;

MasterCard credit cardholders shopped 19% more Y/Y.


The growth of credit card spending outpaced debit card spending,

As deposit balances began to dwindle and inflation runs high.


Meanwhile, new players continue to join the card game.


Bread, formerly ADS, enters the cobrand credit card space,

with the launch of a cashback American Express card.


Klarna now has 1 million sign-ups on the waitlist for its US Klarna Card.
